History
Broad Bay Country Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia opened in 1986. The golf course was designed by the team of Edmund B. Ault and Tom Clark, both members of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, who created a parkland-style layout suited to the gently rolling terrain of Virginia Beach. The 18-hole course plays to a par of 70 at 6,135 yards, with Bermuda grass fairways and bent grass greens. Ault and Clark's design emphasizes a compact, precision-oriented test, with relatively tight par-4 holes averaging around 330 yards and strategic par-3s. The layout rewards accurate iron play and short-game proficiency rather than length. Edmund B. Ault was a prolific mid-Atlantic golf course architect who designed dozens of courses throughout Virginia, Maryland, and the surrounding region. Tom Clark worked alongside and later independently from Ault, and both were recognized members of the ASGCA. The club is located at 2120 Lords Landing in the western section of Virginia Beach, away from the oceanfront corridor. The club operates under Arcis Golf management.
