Boca Del Mar Country Club

Boca Del Mar Country Club is an 18-hole private golf course in Boca Raton designed by Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge and opened in 1972 as the centerpiece of the planned Boca Del Mar residential community. The par-70 layout features Bermuda grass fairways and greens, water hazards, and challenging bunkers woven throughout a mature suburban setting.

Boca Del Mar Country Club opened in 1972 in Boca Raton, Florida, designed by Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge — the Australian touring professional and American architect whose partnership produced some of South Florida's most widely recognized private club layouts during the late 1960s and 1970s. The course was built as part of a sweeping planned community development assembled by the Behring Corporation, which consolidated 2,350 acres of land in southern Palm Beach County and secured Planned Unit Development status from Palm Beach County in August 1971. By December 1972, the Behring Corporation had reorganized as Leadership Housing, Inc. and entered a partnership agreement with Texaco Boca Del Mar, Inc. under the name Boca Del Mar Associates, giving that entity control over the entire 2,350-acre tract. The North Course, designed by Von Hagge and Devlin and built on 124 acres, was completed in 1973, completing the golf component of the Boca Del Mar residential community.

The Devlin-von Hagge partnership was among the productive in Florida golf architecture during the 1960s and 1970s. Robert von Hagge, who had worked as an associate in the office of George Fazio before establishing his independent practice, brought a sculptural approach to bunker shaping and green complex design that became a signature of the firm's Florida work. Bruce Devlin, the Australian PGA Tour winner, contributed competitive insight and marketing credibility to the partnership. Together they produced courses that became anchors for planned communities across South Florida during the development boom of that era.

The club operated as Boca Del Mar Country Club until 2003, when it was renamed The Country Club at Boca Raton under new ownership. That incarnation eventually ended in foreclosure in 2011, after which the course was reopened as Via Mizner Golf & Country Club — a name referencing Addison Mizner, the society architect who shaped Boca Raton's architectural identity in the 1920s. The multiple name changes reflect the broader economic pressures that affected many South Florida private clubs during the 2000s and early 2010s. The Devlin-von Hagge course has continued in operation throughout each ownership transition, providing competitive golf to each successive membership.

The Boca Del Mar residential community that surrounds the course has matured significantly since the early 1970s. The 2,350 acres assembled by the Behring Corporation became one of the more substantial planned communities in Boca Raton, and the golf course has served as its recreational centerpiece across more than five decades of operation.
