The first course Tiger Woods designed in the United States sits on 767 acres of East Texas piney woods, and his fingerprints are everywhere — strategic bunkering through loblolly corridors, elevation changes rare for the Houston area, and The Playgrounds, a lighted 10-hole short course built specifically to bring families and juniors into the game.

Bluejack National stands apart from almost every other private golf club built in the United States in the past two decades because of its course designer: Tiger Woods, making his debut as a golf course architect on a project that drew immediate international attention. The property itself carries a layered history: it sits on the site of the former Blaketree National Golf Club, a course based on a routing by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw that was abandoned and completed in modified form by founder Thomas Blake before closing permanently in 2005, leaving the mature tree-lined acreage vacant for nearly a decade. In 2014, Beacon Land Development purchased the 767-acre Montgomery County property, recognizing its potential and hiring Tiger Woods alongside design partner Beau Welling and Shane Robichaud of Beau Welling Design to create Bluejack National. Construction began in 2015, with Medalist Golf handling the build and incorporating advanced turf technology including Zeon Zoysia and L1F Zoysia fairways developed by Texas firm Bladerunner Farms.

Woods personally inaugurated the 10-hole short course called The Playgrounds in March 2016, followed by the championship course's debut in April 2016. The Montgomery County site offered mature pine forest, natural wetlands, and rolling terrain that gave the design varied topographic material to work with — a more naturally interesting canvas than the flat coastal plain terrain that defines much of the Greater Houston area. The routing uses the forest to create intimate, enclosed fairway corridors, with strategic water crossings and wetland edges providing the primary challenge alongside the green complexes. The gentle, rolling topography covered with mature pines and stately hardwoods draws comparisons to the pinelands of the Carolinas and Georgia more than to the typical Houston-area golf environment.

Woods emphasized playability for a wide range of golfers while providing genuine challenge for skilled players: the green complexes and strategic hazard placement create decision-making demands that reward repeat study of the layout. The Playgrounds short course — a 10-hole facility with shots maxing out at 110 yards — was designed alongside the main course as a dedicated space for families, juniors, and members seeking a different golf experience. The Playgrounds has been recognized as among the top short course experiences in Texas, and its presence alongside the championship layout gives the club a variety of playing experiences unusual for a single-membership private club. Bluejack National won Golf Digest's Best New Private Course award in 2016, the year of its opening.

The historical significance of Bluejack National as the first completed course by the most decorated golfer of the modern era ensures its permanent place in the history of American golf.
