Bay Pointe Country Club, originally known as Wareham Country Club when it opened in 1964, is a Geoffrey Cornish-designed layout on the shores of Buzzards Bay in Onset, Massachusetts. The course's signature seventh hole features an island green, created during a major 1988 renovation that transformed the layout into one of the South Shore's most scenic and memorable tracks.

History

Bay Pointe Country Club has its origins in 1964, when Geoffrey S. Cornish, ASGCA designed the layout in Onset, Massachusetts, on the Cape Cod Canal side of Buzzards Bay. The club initially operated as Wareham Country Club, serving the golf needs of the communities along the upper reaches of Buzzards Bay in Plymouth County. Geoffrey Cornish, the prolific New England architect responsible for hundreds of courses across the region, designed the original layout to take advantage of the property's scenic coastal setting while providing a quality playing experience for members and guests.

The course plays to a par of 70, a configuration that reflects both the property's terrain and Cornish's ability to create variety within a compact layout. The most transformative moment in the club's history came in 1988, when the facility underwent a major renovation that included the construction of the island green seventh hole, which became the course's signature feature. Island greens were a relatively rare design element in New England golf, and the addition of this dramatic hole gave Bay Pointe a distinctive identity that set it apart from other regional courses. The renovation also marked a transition in the club's identity, with the facility eventually rebranding as Bay Pointe Country Club to reflect its evolved character and coastal location.

A second significant renovation took place in 2012, when the club changed ownership and invested in a multi-million dollar capital improvement program that updated facilities and enhanced the overall member and guest experience. The course stretches to 6,111 yards from the championship tees with a course rating of 70.2 and slope of 123, providing a playing experience that rewards accuracy and course management over raw distance. Multiple tee options, ranging from the back tees at 6,111 yards to forward tee positions, make the course accessible to a broad range of players while preserving the challenge for accomplished golfers. Bay Pointe operates as a semi-private facility, combining membership benefits with public access tee times.

Onset's location near the Cape Cod Canal and Buzzards Bay gives the club a scenic coastal character, with the surrounding landscape of the South Shore providing a backdrop for a round of golf. The club's par-70 layout moves efficiently through varied terrain, with the island green seventh providing a memorable focal point for every round.
