History

Awbrey Glen Golf Club is a private golf club in Bend, Oregon, set on the high desert plateau above the Deschutes River with views of the Cascade Range that make it among the visually spectacular private courses in central Oregon. The course was designed by Gene "Bunny" Mason and opened in the 1990s as the Central Oregon golf market was expanding dramatically with the growth of Bend as a national outdoor recreation destination. The club occupies terrain on the Awbrey Glen area west of downtown Bend, where the basalt plateau that characterizes much of central Oregon gives way to the juniper and ponderosa pine landscape of the Deschutes River uplands.

The Cascade peaks — including the Three Sisters, Broken Top, Bachelor, and the distant Mount Hood — provide a panoramic backdrop that changes with the season and the weather, creating a visual experience unlike any other in Oregon golf. The course plays through the high desert terrain of the Bend area, with the juniper trees and volcanic rock outcroppings creating natural hazards and visual definition throughout the round. The high altitude of Bend — approximately 3,600 feet above sea level — means shots carry somewhat farther than at sea level, and the variability of the desert climate creates playing conditions that range from the crisp perfection of cool morning rounds to the demanding afternoon heat and wind common in central Oregon summers.

Awbrey Glen Golf Club has built a loyal membership from the Bend residential and second-home community, which has grown dramatically as Bend emerged as among the desirable small cities in America for outdoor lifestyle enthusiasts. The club's combination of Cascade views, high desert character, and private club amenities has made it among the sought-after memberships in the Central Oregon golf market. The clubhouse and practice facilities provide members with the amenities expected of a first-class private club, and the course has hosted Oregon Golf Association events and invitational competitions that have established Awbrey Glen as a quality competitive venue in central Oregon.

Today Awbrey Glen Golf Club continues to serve the growing Bend community as a respected private golf destination, providing members with a course that combines high desert beauty and championship challenge in among the remarkable natural settings in American golf.
