The founding membership drew from the civic and business communities of Placentia and neighboring communities in Orange County. The club was incorporated as a traditional private facility, and the golf course became its centerpiece. In 1973, Harry Rainville's son David Rainville — a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects — undertook a refinement of the original routing, updating bunker placement and tee complexes to reflect evolved agronomic standards and to keep the course competitive against the newer private clubs being built across Orange County. This father-and-son continuity is unusual in California golf, and it ensured that the design language of the original layout was preserved rather than replaced.
